3。5 stars out of 5Now that I am finished the official Part 1 of Chainsaw Man, I would give it a solid 7/10 (if Goodreads let me)。 It's not bad, but it's not amazing either。 I give it a solid B- grade, and here's why。This volume was definitely better than the last 3。 Volume 8 and 10 were all over the place, and while Volume 9 was emotional for me, it too was kind of a mess。 The pacing in this series, and the quality of the story, took a major nose dive after volume 7。 Denji looked like he was tur 3。5 stars out of 5Now that I am finished the official Part 1 of Chainsaw Man, I would give it a solid 7/10 (if Goodreads let me)。 It's not bad, but it's not amazing either。 I give it a solid B- grade, and here's why。This volume was definitely better than the last 3。 Volume 8 and 10 were all over the place, and while Volume 9 was emotional for me, it too was kind of a mess。 The pacing in this series, and the quality of the story, took a major nose dive after volume 7。 Denji looked like he was turning a corner when he didn't just immediately decide to run off with Reze, because he had people and a job that he liked for the first time in his life。 The boy who had no agency before, stood up for himself and said no。 But that growth was forgotten for some reason, and when the going got tough, he decided to sign his life away to the main villain。 Volume 11 does redeem Denji a degree。 Honestly, this is the most likeable he's been since the beginning of the series。 His conversation with Kobeni makes him realize that life is shit for pretty much everyone, and not just him, but people keep on going regardless。 He realizes he likes being Chainsaw Man, the hero, and, therefore, Makima has to go, because she wants to kill him。 He still likes her for some reason, but he knows she is in the way of his happiness。 So he gets rid of her。 This growth was rushed, but I appreciated it, because Denji desperately needed something to redeem him in some way。As for Makima as a villain, I still don't know what her powers are。 I get that she can control people, and use them like zombies, but how can she transport herself from one location to another using rats? How can she explode people with her mind? Is she telling them to explode? If so, it is never explained。 Also, her motives are very generic。 The idea of creating a free world by controlling the populace has been done to death, but then Pochita explains in a random throw away moment, that she just wanted love, but was too crazy to figure out how to get that, and I all I could think, 'sure'。 Technically, the Control Devil has been reborn, and in order to keep Nayuta from becoming another Makima, Denji is tasked with giving her lots of love, so here's hoping he doesn't mess it up。All in all, this is a series that started strong, and then fumbled in it's last arc。 I get the feeling like Fujimoto was not prepared for how popular this series would become, and legitimately did not know how to end this series in order to live up to people's expectations。 The final arc seemed rushed, which makes no sense, because it is one of the most popular manga series right now。 It wasn't as if cancellation was looming over his head。 Side characters were not developed properly, except Aki and Power。 People just kept getting introduced, only to be killed off, so you could never form any meaningful connection with them (except Kishibe)。 Also, what is the deal with Hell? How does it work? Who's in charge? It just feels like not enough time was spent explaining this world, and powers of the devils themselves。 Denji defeats Makima by doing something he figured out off page! I do not understand why it wasn't explained better。 I'm hoping, because there is going to be a Part 2, and Fujimoto has some time to mull things over, that he is able to explain these things a lot better the next time around, because I am lost。 But I still have hope, because Fujimoto was able to make Denji's future seem hopeful after the shit storm that was the last couple of volumes, so we shall have to see what Part 2 has in store。 。。。more

Chainsaw Man isn't for everyone。 And that sounds generic。 But Chainsaw Man sure as shit isn't!It's a gore-fest, most characters are assholes and I love them, it's a surreal feast of great art and fucked up imagery。The story is a rollercoaster that I couldn't predict no matter what, I didn't expect to cry but I definitely fucking cried。If you wanna see a guy morb it up in a good way this is a great read, but be warned: when I say it's not for everyone, I fucking mean it。This story dives into some Chainsaw Man isn't for everyone。 And that sounds generic。 But Chainsaw Man sure as shit isn't!It's a gore-fest, most characters are assholes and I love them, it's a surreal feast of great art and fucked up imagery。The story is a rollercoaster that I couldn't predict no matter what, I didn't expect to cry but I definitely fucking cried。If you wanna see a guy morb it up in a good way this is a great read, but be warned: when I say it's not for everyone, I fucking mean it。This story dives into some really uncomfortable topics, handling most of them pretty well (especially for a manga) but that doesn't mean it doesn't get really fucking *mmmmm* you know what I mean???It's incredibly creative for a shōnen-like manga and the battles are much much fun。Power is best girl and no one can change my god damn mind。The main character is a horny dumbass jerk and somehow he's likeable, like how the fuck do you put all these jock characteristics into a single character and it works???Many of the side characters are selfish pricks/jerks/fucks/whatevers and I can't really bring myself to hate most of them??? Why are these unlikable characters so likeable???The pace of the story is nice and fast, the way I like it。 No one sits still, story keeps rolling down a hill and my adhd brain fucking loves it。TLDR: You like surreal or surreal-ish stuff, can handle gore quite well and want a wild ride of crazy bullshit that somehow works? Read this! Or don't! Can't really blame you if you don't。 This shit's whack yo。P。S。 I've read this three times in like five months。 。。。more

The big finale puts everything within Denji's hands as he faces Makima in a life or death situation。 Unsurprisingly, it's more of the same as the story devolves into an incomprehensible mess。 Luckily, this is where it all ends。 If this ever gets picked up once more for a part 2, count me out。 The big finale puts everything within Denji's hands as he faces Makima in a life or death situation。 Unsurprisingly, it's more of the same as the story devolves into an incomprehensible mess。 Luckily, this is where it all ends。 If this ever gets picked up once more for a part 2, count me out。 。。。more

I am impressed。。。 I actually like the way a Shonen manga ended。 Albeit it wasn't a real end end。 Just the first arc of a longer story。 The ending was surprisingly hopeful, considering the fact the majority of the main cast is very much dead。 I enjoyed the way Denji, managed to outplay Makima, who up until this point was an unstoppable god。 It was unexpected and pretty clever。 Also how he ended her without having to use Chainsaw man to 'eat' her。 It's an interesting turn and I am excited to pick- I am impressed。。。 I actually like the way a Shonen manga ended。 Albeit it wasn't a real end end。 Just the first arc of a longer story。 The ending was surprisingly hopeful, considering the fact the majority of the main cast is very much dead。 I enjoyed the way Denji, managed to outplay Makima, who up until this point was an unstoppable god。 It was unexpected and pretty clever。 Also how he ended her without having to use Chainsaw man to 'eat' her。 It's an interesting turn and I am excited to pick-up the next part of Chainsaw man to see where it all goes。 。。。more

It was a very crazy plot from start to finish, but the twists were great and I loved all the characters。 The designs were also fantastic- I very badly want to draw them now。 Like so bad。 They’re so cool。 I thought everything was very imaginative, and while a lot of the plot was kind of surreal and random, I think there’s no better manga I’ve read that deserves a good anime to pair with it。 I hope denji and power meet again, and I hope Aki rests in peace

The ending definitely implies that there is going to be a sequel series at one point, which fair enough, but it also wraps up pretty well in itself。 This was definitely an interesting ending to part one though - how things wrapped up with Makima and the reveal (view spoiler)[of a new control devil replacing her which will essentially be raised by Denji (hide spoiler)] was fair enough。 My real problem with this series stemmed from my lack of interest in the characters - the juvenile humour wasn't The ending definitely implies that there is going to be a sequel series at one point, which fair enough, but it also wraps up pretty well in itself。 This was definitely an interesting ending to part one though - how things wrapped up with Makima and the reveal (view spoiler)[of a new control devil replacing her which will essentially be raised by Denji (hide spoiler)] was fair enough。 My real problem with this series stemmed from my lack of interest in the characters - the juvenile humour wasn't for me, the over the top graphic violence didn't cover for a sometimes nonsensical, oddly paced plot, and scenes that should have been emotional just didn't quite hit home。 This definitely had it's moments where I thought 'I could like this, this is quite decent' but ultimately this was just kind of mediocre for me。 This is one hype train that I certainly couldn't board, which is such a shame as I wanted to like this so much。 。。。more
